Die Jazz- und Bluessängerin Ella Johnson wurde am 22. Juni 1919 *) in Darlington, South Carolina, als Ella Mae Johnson geboren und verstarb am 16. Februar 2004 In New York City, New York. Bereits als Jugendliche trat sie im Orchester ihres Bruders, des Pianisten Buddy Johnson (links klicken), als Sängerin auf und machte später auch Solo-Einspielungen. Verheiratet war sie mit Odell Day.
