Story:
Im Jahre 1939 gründeten fünf blinde neunjährige Buben vom Talladega Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind eine Gesangsgruppe die sie The Happyland Singers nannten. Als sie 1948 mit den Jackson Harmoneers, einer anderen Gruppe blinder Sänger, auftreten sollten, ließ der Veranstalter das Konzert als Wettbewerb zwischen den Five Blind Boys of Alabama und den Five Blind Boys of Mississippi anpreisen. Beide Ensembles nutzten diese neuen Namen dann weiterhin, verwendeten aber ihre alten Namen in sehr differenzierter Weise fallweise auch noch.

Der amerikanische Sänger Clarence Fountain ist tot. Dies teilt seine Band, die Gospelgruppe Blind Boys of Alabama, mit.

Nach Mitteilung auf der Band-Website starb der Musiker am Sonntag in Baton Rouge, im US-Staat Louisiana. Er wurde 88 Jahre alt.
